National Trophy Series Round 5 Shrewsbury

[nggallery id=36]Dan Tulett took a fine win in Shrewsbury in Round 5 of the British National Trophy Series. Cementing his place as winner of the series in the U14 category, for the second year running, with 5 wins out of 5 with one remaining round left. Tom Franklin also took the win in the U16 category youth race. As a massive bonus he took the lead in the series overall and is now in the leader’s yellow jersey for the final round in Derby. Steve Davies took the win in the Over 50 veteran’s race in his first race for the team which sealed his green jersey having won 4 rounds so far this year! Martin Eadon finished in 7th place – a very good ride having struggled with illness throughout the season.

Matt Hargroves took his first podium of the series with a fine ride in the mud. Taking 3rd on the day just missing out on second but he said “it was worth the wait!” Harry Franklin wasn’t far behind in 5th place with both riders looking forward to the final round in Derby on the 6th of January and the National Championships in Bradford on the 13th of January.

Steve James took 7th in the senior race and 2nd in the under 23’s closing the gap to the green jersey which is down to just 6 points coming into the last round. A close run series that has seen mishaps for just about every rider in the series at some point this season. Crispin Doyle finished in 25th place after a front puncture early in the race. Andy Hargroves suffered a heavy early race crash which marred most of his race but managed to pick his way up from the back of the field to 29th.

One thing that has outshone all of these results was our pit crew across the weekend there commitment to the riders was second to none. They got through 600 litres of water and kept our team at the front the race with a clean bike every half lap. Thank you to Allister, Nigel, Pete, Mike, Matt and Barbara and anyone else who help run bikes between the pit and jet wash.
