2013 National Trophy Round 1 – Abergavenny
Mud, mud and more mud. Probably the quickest way to sum up the weekend!
National Trophy Round 1 kicked off on Sunday at the well tested venue of Abergavenny Sports Centre. On Saturday night the heavens opened and by Sunday morning the only tyre on any bike was a mud tyre.
In the Under 14s race Ben Tulett had a tough race to finish 4th and just miss a podium position. Next up was his brother and fellow Hargroves rider Tulett in the Under 16 race. No surprise to hear that Dan took the win, but as he’s moved up a category and things were tough! Dan is having a great season so far – you can read more about this here.
In the Vets 50 race Steven Davies destroyed the rest of the field to take the win in some style. Steve looks to be on for another very solid season looking resplendent in his National Champions Kit.
Crispin Doyle was another rider who just missed a podium finish. Crispin finished 4th just behind a very strong trio of riders. Crispin has been dominating the Wessex League this year and we are confident he will be on the podium at National Trophy very soon.
In the Elite race Tom Van Den Bosch made the trip from Belgium to secure 3rd place. Next home was Steve James in 10th, Jody Crawforth in 19th and Matt Hargroves(first year Senior) in 23rd.
