Gorrick Spring Series Gets Under Way

Race Report by: Chris Dobson

Last Sunday saw the start of the Gorrick Spring Series, these are often seen as the season openers here in the south east.
As such I was keen to see where my winter training had put me against my rivals?

I lined up on the start line  in masters race, With no high end intervals done I was not thinking I would be that at the sharp end of things, but as the hooter sounded I found myself with a good start and sitting in the lead group of three riders. I soon settled into a pace I was happy with.

I was able to make time on the other riders on the climbs, but did not want to push myself in to the red too much as I was not sure how many times I could do so? I let them get a small gap of about 10 seconds planning to get them back on the last lap on the climbs and then just go straight past them. All well and good on paper but the back markers from the other races where something I had not bargained on and they cost me dearly on two of the technical sections on the last lap.

I tried to get back on terms with the leaders but I ran out of track, finishing in third place and 32 seconds down on the winner.

On the whole a good day, and pleased to come away with a podium position for the first race of the year. a lot of positives to take forward from here.

I would like to thank Hargroves for their continued support in the 2014 MTB season.
