National Cyclo-cross Trophy – Round 1 – Southampton
Ian Field wins at opening round of British Cycling National Trophy cyclocross series.
Sunday saw the opening round of the British Cycling National Trophy and with it a barrage of top results from the Hargroves Cycles Race Team.
The race conditions were almost perfect for an early season cross race; the surface was hard, fast and the sun was out.
Ian rode a supremely confident race, not getting caught up in the early injection of pace but waiting patiently for the right time to attack. Soon enough Ian was leading the field and on the penultimate lap upped the pace once more to secure the yellow jersey. “It’s never easy to win a National Trophy round and today certainly wasn’t an easy race,” said winner Ian Field.
Nicholas Barnes road a strong race, finishing 2nd on the podium in the Under 23’s category.
Ruby Miller was amongst good company in the Elite Women’s category, finishing in 15th.
In a category with over fifty riders on the start line, Steven Davies rode hard and achieved 3rd place on the podium.
