National Trophy Series Round 6 – Derby
What a weekend! 4 National Trophy series wins![nggallery id=38]
Dan Tulett won the Under 14 race and the series overall. This was more amazing as Dan has won every single round as he did last year making him completely undefeated as an Under 14 in National Series rounds for 2 years! An outstanding achievement!
Tom Franklin carried on our winning form in youth races by taking the overall series in the U16’s. Tom won the race in emphatic style, leading from the start and never looking back. New signing Steve Davies took the win in the over 50 veteran’s category wrapping up the series overall and showing his form is very good for next week’s National Championship in Bradford.
Steve James took 10th in the elite race to secure the under 23’s series. A hard fought series which came down to the last race with Steve just a few points behind the leader at the start. Tom Van Den Bosch assisted Steve James through a rough period and get Steve back to where he needed to be to clinch the green jersey. Tom did a great job playing the teammate sacrificing some of his own result for the greater cause. Steve then followed Tom closely all the way to the line finishing in 10th place.
In the elite race there was yet more success with Ian field taking 2nd in the race. Ian was first British rider home beating the overall series winner. This was Ian’s first race back since dislocating his shoulder 5 weeks ago. Ian was in no pain with the recent injury and was a contender for being race leader until the very end of the race. Tom Van Den Bosch finished in 9th place. Tom has had a busy Christmas and is now just fine tuning his form ahead of the Belgian Championships next week. Jody Crawforth made his return after a broken knee cap to take 14th place which was an amazing ride considering Jody has only been back on his bike 2 weeks. Crispin Doyle finished in 27th place and is building his form for next week’s National Championships.
In other races, Malcolm cross took a very convincing 4th in the over 50’s with Martin Eadon in 17th place. In the women’s race Tamina Oliver finished 11th against tough competition and Anna Cipullo wasn’t far behind in 15th place. In the Juniors Harry Franklin took 5th after leading for the first couple of laps. Matt Hargroves struggled with the conditions at the start but managed to settle himself and work his way back up to 6th.
We’d like to thank all our helpers who made sure the riders bikes were clean in all of the races.
Next weekend it’s the National Championships in Bradford. All of the rider’s are fine tuning their form and we are looking forward to it.
