National Youth Circuit Series
Last weekend I competed in the last round of the National Youth Circuit Series and rode in the under 16 category. Going into this race I did not have high expectations but I knew I could finish up around the front due to the course and the very large and steep hill close to the finish.
As the race started I was seeded at the back and had to make my way through a very sketchy field to get towards the front before the first 4 laps of the top circuit. After two or so laps I managed to get to the front, then a few riders slipped off the front before we got to the first climb. I started the ascent around mid pack but quickly found myself leading the group up the climb, which is what happened every lap.
After 2 more laps the 3 riders were still off the front and going up the climb with 2 laps to go I managed to ride off the front of the pack and make it across to the group. As soon as I made it there my chain slipped off and wrapped around the crank, making it impossible to get back on without hopping off the bike.
By the time I had the chain on the main pack had gone past. Luckily I managed to chase back to them before the bell for the last lap. I sat in the pack for most of that lap until the final climb where I again led the group up near the top until I put it in the big ring and powered away. I then managed to hold the gap until the line where I came 4th. I was very happy with the result and it rounds off a fantastic year both on road, track and mountain bike.
