Race Report: UK National Trophy Final Round, Steve Davies Masters Worlds and Ian Field World Cup #6 Rome
Mud, wind, rain and a mixed bag of fortunes for the team this weekend.
Shrewsbury hosted the sixth and final round of the National Trophy Cyclocross Series. The weather probably couldn’t have been any worse with bike changes happening every lap or so.
Dan Tulett made it his 18th straight National Trophy race victory – surely a record that will stand for some time! Dan has won all 6 races this year and has won the series outright(once again!)
In the Vets(40) race Crispin Doyle finished 5th to secure 3rd overall in the series and a well earned place on the podium. Normally we would be writing about Steve Davies in the Vets(50) race but Steve was competing in the World Master Cyclocross Championships in Gossau, Switzerland. Steve has been on excellent form this year so hopes were high. Unfortunately Steve got caught in some course tape during the race costing him dearly, the result was 6th place for Steve.
In the elite race Steve James was looking to secure second place and also to win the under 23s series overall. Unfortunately it wasn’t Steve’s day and a mechanical pushed him too far behind Ben Sumner leaving him one point adrift from the top. Steve has had a great season though finishing 2nd overall in the Elite series and second overall in the Under 23s.
Finally Ian Field was in action in Round 6 of the Cyclocross World Cup in Rome. Rome is normally associated with fast racing in the sunshine but this year was very different. Ian was instantly at home in the mud and rain finishing solidly in 30th position.
