This weekend 4 of our team represented Great Britain at the European Championships in Ipswich. Steve James and Andy Hargroves rode the Under 23 race with Harry Franklin and Matt Hargroves riding in the junior category. It was a special experience for all of the riders as it was the first international race to be held in the UK since 1992. Steve James had a brilliant ride coming in home in 24th place while Andy Hargroves finished in 36th place. In the juniors Harry Franklin finished in 28th place with Matt Hargroves finishing in 32nd place a brilliant effort by both riders on their first international appearances.
British National trophy series Round 2 Ipswich
On the Sunday Tom Van Den Bosch finished a fine 2nd place in terrible conditions caused by all of the overnight rain. This was Tom’s first race in the UK and he certainly impressed with his skill and composure in the awful conditions. Steve James was on absolutely flying form after a brilliant day on Saturday, he finished in 4th place in the race. Which meant he was first Brit home and 1st U23 showing what potential Steve has in the sport. Jody Crawforth finished a well deserved 9th place on what was an extremely tough day for all of the riders and mechanics. Andy Hargroves had a rare off day after a decent ride yesterday he struggled to recover and suffered a little with the conditions.
In other races Dan Tulett took yet another win in the under 14’s category! He won by over two and a half minutes and caught most of the under 16’s for the 2nd round in a row. Ben Tulett won the under 12’s lapping nearly all the riders in the race! Tom Franklin took 4th in the under 16’s holding his high place in the overall standings. Tamina Oliver was 7th in the women’s race a great ride to back up her 5th place in Abergavenny.
In Belgium on Thursday Ian Field and Tom Van Den Bosch rode the famous Koppenberg cross, a tough race that takes in the famous Koppenberg climb every lap. Ian finished 23rd after a last lap puncture and Tom was close behind finishing in 27th place. Ian the rode the Zonhoven round of the Superprestige series which is another famous race that goes down two huge sand dunes. Ian finished a brilliant 21st to round of another great weekend for the team.
